Lumicios was created out of a deep appreciation for the Spanish language and the human connections it can create.
Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and continues to grow across international communities, education, business, travel, and everyday life. But beyond its global importance, the Spanish language also carries culture, identity, perspective, humor, emotion, and connection between people.
Over the years, Lumicios has grown around the idea that learning Spanish should feel personal, thoughtful, and genuinely connected to the people behind the experience — not reduced to isolated lessons or transactional tutoring.
At Lumicios, learning Spanish is approached as a long-term human experience shaped by communication, confidence, curiosity, and connection.
The goal is to help students develop a more natural and meaningful relationship with the language over time, in a way that feels engaging, supportive, and sustainable.
Today, the school continues to work with students of different ages, goals, and backgrounds through an approach shaped by personalization, educational care, and ongoing support.
The idea behind Lumicios began during my university years in Lima, Peru.
Although my professional background is in Structural Engineering (Civil Engineering), I was always fascinated by the Spanish language—its structure, grammar, history, and cultural richness.
Teaching mathematics and Spanish for more than twenty years, moving to the United States in 2013, and traveling through different parts of the world taught me several important lessons. I learned that every person approaches learning differently, that Spanish is valued far beyond the countries where it is a native language, and that many people who learn it develop a genuine curiosity about other cultures and perspectives.
Those experiences eventually inspired me to create Lumicios.
I understand that people choose to learn Spanish for many different reasons. My hope is that, beyond the language itself, students also discover some of the cultural richness, curiosity, and openness that often come with it.

At the heart of Lumicios are two essential elements: teachers and student advisors. Both are carefully selected not only for their abilities and experience, but also for how well they align with the values, philosophy, and personality of the school. Every student at Lumicios is assigned a dedicated Student Advisor from the very beginning.
Student Advisors coordinate scheduling, communication, and support while working closely with both students and teachers, creating a smoother learning experience for everyone involved.
Through their ongoing collaboration with teachers, Student Advisors also help maintain continuity throughout the student’s learning journey, creating an experience that feels organized, responsive, and supportive.

Every learning journey at Lumicios starts with understanding the student. From the very first conversation, the goal is to learn about the student’s objectives, experience, learning preferences, and scheduling needs in order to create the best possible starting point.
Step 1
Once you sign up for a trial class, a Student Advisor is assigned to help guide the process from the very beginning. Based on your goals, learning preferences, and scheduling needs, they help match you with the teacher who is best suited to lead your trial class and begin your learning journey.
Step 2
The trial class is more than an introduction. It is an opportunity for both the student and teacher to begin working together and determine whether the match feels right. While students experience what learning at Lumicios feels like firsthand, teachers gain valuable insight into the student’s level, learning style, strengths, and goals.
Step 3
Once a student decides to continue after the trial class, the teacher begins shaping a personalized learning experience using insights gathered during the trial together with the Lumicios syllabus. As the teacher gets to know the student better over time, lessons continue to evolve, helping ensure that learning remains relevant, engaging, and aligned with the student’s goals and progress. From there, the learning journey truly begins.
